In this visualization, you can see every day that has passed since the founding of the Talking Heads. Starting with 1975, and reaching 2025, a galaxy-like spiral wraps and ascends from a distant past to the immediate present. Each sequential year is subtly larger; years are orbited by months, each containing within them their corresponding number of days. It’s a beautiful constellation of time.

Your year-by-year journey up through the spiral is narrated with annual annotations of the most prominent accomplishments of the group and its members - starting with their first gig in 1975, their increasingly successful album releases through the later 1970’s and 1980’s. Although the group formally dissolved in 1991, the contributions of the founding measures and the ongoing legacy of the band continued to shape modern music throughout the next 34 years.

To guide your navigation through the spiral, a legend in the lower left corner shows the placement of months, days, and years. The Talking Head’s birthday month of June stands out from the other eleven months’ yellows, featuring a grey and white highlight that nods to David Byrne’s iconic Stop Making Sense ensemble of his gray kabuki-theater inspired suit and white sneakers.

And, the detail is extraordinary: as you zoom in and descend through the spiral, the image retains clarity and resolution for reading narrative and visualizing the true length of the Talking Head’s career, counted in days, months, and years…all the way down to the first year of the Talking Head’s significant and important history in modern music.

Numbered but identical editions ascend in price; Edition 1 begins at $30 and Edition 20 concludes at $50. Further editions, if issued, will follow suit with similar pricing.

25% of the net proceeds from each edition goes to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a grassroots mental health advocacy organization dedicated to building better lives for people affected by mental illness.
